美股10月魔咒 果然再臨？

10月將出現美股主要趨勢反轉往下的機率，究竟幾何？

根據MarketWatch分析報導，這問題正在投資人的心中擺盪著，因為本周股市的波動極不尋常，過去三個交易日，道瓊均創下達三位數的漲跌走勢。10月，以股市趨勢改變機率暴增而著名，投資人早已心知肚明。

其實，股市交易員年鑑便稱10月為「不祥」月份。

10月的確有不尋常之處：過去五次主要趨勢改變，有三次發生在10月。分別是：

2002年10月9日：2000至2002年的空頭市場結束，該空頭市場以網路泡沫破滅做為開始。

2007年10月9日：2002至2007年的多頭市場結束。

2011年10月3日：2011年空頭市場結束。的確，部份股市分析師並不認為2011年曾出現過空頭市場，因為道瓊工業平均指數，由2011年春季高點至10月低點，僅下跌了19.2%，並不符合20%跌幅的空頭市場定義。但代表性更廣的S&P 500指數則符合了這項定義，下跌21.6%。

根據Ned Davis研究機構的統計顯示，自1900年以來，美國股市計出現69次重大趨勢改變，其中有9次發生在10月。雖然高於每月平均的5.75次，但10月出現的總數，既不具統計上意義，亦非獨特。例如，另有二個月份，亦出現了9次趨勢改變，另有一個月，趨勢改變出現了8次。

另一項統計則突顯，10月趨勢改變的頻率高於平均水準，有其瑕疵。即長時間而言，這項明顯的型態並不穩定。例如過去50年，10月經歷了相當頻繁的趨勢改變，然而上世紀前50年，趨勢改變幾乎從未出現在10月。

10月美股趨勢改變頻繁，目前為止，唯一理論在於，多數股票共同基金的會計年度係於10月結束，當能於該月份，引進高於平均的美化帳面交易。

但這項理論仍存在疑慮。根據追蹤基金表現的Lipper公司數據顯示，投入會計年度於12月結束基金的資金，多過會計年度於10月結束的基金。然而，12月出現趨勢改變的次數，卻低於平均水準。

當然，這並不意味空頭市場不會由這個月開始。但這項研究結果顯示，若未來幾天，一項重大的趨勢改變果然出現，那將是因其他理由，而非僅因現在是10月。
