Digitimes Research: Vendors, software developers flocking to Android OS

Due to the fast-growing Android ecosystem, most software developers have no choice but to support Android OS in order to avoid of being marginalized, according to Digitimes Research.
For instance, MIPS Technologies has made its CPU architecture capable to execute Android OS, and BlackBerry's Playbook tablet is compatible with Android's applications, Digitimes Research noted.
Intel has also made its x86-based CPUs compatible with Android and has cooperated with Asustek Computer to launch dual-OS transformer tablets. The chipset vendor has also incorporated its Atom family products with Android OS for production of mobile devices such as Asustek's ZenFone-series smartphones.
The latest market data showed that Android-based smartphones accounted for as high as 76.82% of total global smartphone shipments in 2013, and tablets run on Android OS also accounted for 51.28% of global tablet shipments in the first quarter of 2014.
Some businesses are tying their technology IPs with Android for business development, while others such as Xiaomi Technology and the vendor of Blackphone are optimizing variant Android OS for business initiations. Thus, Digitimes Research believes that the proliferation of Android-compatible solutions anddevices will continue.
