在公告中也指出此資料片命名的原因，從 Blizzard 旗下遊戲「蟲族之心」（Heart of the Swarm）、《暴雪英霸》（Heroes of the Storm）、《爐石戰記》（Hearth of the Stone）的命名風格來觀察，玩家似乎喜歡「Hots」這幾個特定字母的縮寫，因此研發團隊才重新思考《星海爭霸 2》新資料片的名稱，並取名為「Herald of the Stars」。
資深遊戲設計師 David Kim 表示他對新名稱的看法，他指出：「從設計師的角度來看，我們希望讓玩家有全新的美好體驗，也可以讓新玩家和回鍋玩家都能輕易接受。我們的命名方式已經受到遊戲社群的矚目，任何改變都會造成沒有必要的疏離感，所以我們會堅持命名方法，讓玩家從 HotS 升級到 HotS 的時候可以毫無阻礙地接受下一款資料片！」
資深 Blizzard 流行趨勢研究主任 Jack Sterling 表示，一篇研究結果指出，相較於其他遊戲的命名方法，Blizzard 的命名方式受到 87% 受驗者的肯定。不僅讓玩家朗朗上口，更具有迅速提高體溫的效用；雖然他們也不知道為什麼要取這個名字，但它唸起來真的很炫！
資深遊戲製作人 Hony Tsu 則提出：「老實說，《星海爭霸 2》系列讓 Blizzard 背負了沉重的期許。在將遊戲名稱從《蟲族之心（Heart of the Swarm）》推往《虛空之遺（Legacy of the Void）》的過程中，我們面臨了相當大的掙扎，因為我們實在是太喜歡 HotS 這個簡寫了。我們花上無數時間研究舊作名稱以尋求突破；事實上，有將近一半以上的研發時間都花費在考究某些同僚輕率提出的古怪命名建議上。最後終於讓我們想出了《來自星星的指揮官（Herald of the Stars）》這個新命名，這不僅讓我們省時又省力，更可保留 HotS 這巧妙縮寫，就像是動人的擁抱（hugs of the soul，HotS）一樣。說到這個，我突然發現，我的名字是 Hony Tsu，簡寫後的 email 地址正好是 HoTs@blizzard.com。嗯...難怪這個簡稱意義非凡了。」
