紐約洋基隊日籍投手田中將大備受矚目的首次先發出賽，面對費城人隊打線，他主投3局，共用了41球，被打2支安打失1分退場，洋基隊最後以4:3獲勝。

由於當地清水市從早上就有龍捲風警報，加上下雨，原本氣候狀況就不佳，不過後來天氣放晴，比賽在延遲了約1個半小時後開打。

這是從2日登板後，田中第2次在春訓熱身賽中亮相，首局，他就以三振解決了Chase Utley。

此局他也以滾地球讓Ryan Howard、Domonic Brown等好手出局，不過也被Marlon Byrd敲出二壘安打。

田中是在3局下，2人出局時，被Freddy Galvis敲出全壘打，也領教了大聯盟打者的「Power」。

賽後田中表示：「狀況不好時，這樣的成績算普普通通，在球季開始時，常常會有狀況不佳的時候，但是狀況不好更想要集中力氣，而天氣不好的狀況而導致比賽稍晚開打的狀況也會有，所以我認為這是個很好的練習。」

這次田中所搭配的捕手是Brian McCann，所被敲出的全壘打其實算是較為偏低，約141公里的直球。

有記者問到田中這發全壘打的狀況，田中笑說：「因為我也是人，我不可能每天都投得很完美。」
