台駐美官員首度出任ICAC主席

駐美代表處10日宣布，國際棉業諮詢委員會（ICAC）第73屆年會通過駐美代表處秘書廖尉君出任常務委員會新任主席，這是我國官員首度出任ICAC主席，也是我國官員首度出任政府間國際組織的首長。

駐美官員說，ICAC秘書處位於美國華府，各會員國駐美經濟或農業事務官員組成常務委員會，每年進行五至六次會議，為ICAC決策機構。ICAC目前有40個會員國，台灣於1963年加入至今，我國代表廖尉君去年出任常務委員會副主席，並於本屆年會正式通過及生效出任主席，任期1年。

ICAC表示，我國代表出任主席適切展現該會成員地理分布及產銷型態的均衡代表性，並高度肯定我國參與會務的專業與熱忱。
